So since I'm off work for the time being, I had some time to finally get back to this project and complete it. I did the coloring, shading, and background all in Gimp with the main color scheme being shades of blue. Like my Reaper picture, the bio is done in the form of a letter of a sailor writing back home to his lady.
La Meraina
My dearest love, though times are hard for us all, I have the most delightful of stories to tell you. In the early morn, I came upon such a sight, it was a herd of Merainas making their way as they passed our boat. I would have to say that if there is anything out there that embodies the spirit of the ocean, it surely is them. Do you know of the legends of the Meraina? If not then allow me to tell you, they say that the Meraina is only tamed by one thing and that is the waves of the sea. These beautiful dragons are not easily tamed by humans but since they are sea dwellers, there really isn’t a reason for humans to make the attempt to do so anyway. Being a dragon who is only female, they produce their young without needing a mate and further more, without laying eggs. They are one of the few dragons who do not need a mate in order to produce offspring but this is not to say that other wretched male dragons haven’t tried to have their way with them. Do you know why they are called Merainas…legend has it that when they lose one of their own, the tears that they shed move the heavens so much that even the sky will began to cry. It seems that this particular group is mostly adults with a few live young. They seem to be traveling with their heads above water, possibly to breathe before going under again. We’re almost done with the fishing season and will be back to port soon, I look forward to seeing you again…
HTTYD belongs to Dreamworks, Meraina belongs to me.
